Advent by Jessica Powers I live my Advent in the womb of Mary. And on one night when a great star swings free from its high mooring and walks down the sky to be the dot above the Christus i, I shall be born of her by blessed grace. I wait in Mary-darkness, faith’s walled place, with hope’s expectance of nativity. I knew for long she carried me and fed me, guarded and loved me, though I could not see. 365 Days with Christina Rossetti–Day 7

Exodus 3:14 I am that I am. O Lord Jesus Christ, the I AM, cast down, I beseech Thee, before the unapproachable Mystery of Thy Being, all man’s haughtiness of will and pride of intellect. Make the wise and prudent of this world as babes, that they may desire the sincerest milk of Thy Word: let them not wrest Thy good gifts to their own destruction; but with great abilities and responsibilities bestow, O Lord our Wisdom, greater grace. Amen.

365 Days with Christina Rossetti–Day 6

Genesis 32:28 As a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. O Lord Jesus Christ, with Whom Jacob prevailed, help us with that holy patriarch by prayer to hold Thee fast, and by love to cleave steadfastly unto Thee, our ever-present Aid. I entreat Thee, when Thy Providences are dark to our eyes strengthen our faith; and whatever portion thou allottest to us, give us grace to say, It is enough. Amen. Editors’ Note: Christina Rossetti wrote a devotional entitled Annus Domini: A Prayer for the Days of the Year, Founded on a Text of Holy Scripture (1874). We will be featuring one of her prayers for the next 365 days.
